Wentja Morgan Napaltjarri is the daughter of world renowned artist Shorty Lungkata Tjungurrayi, one of the original founders of the Western Desert art movement. Shorty had a major influence on his daughter's work and she originally starting as her father's apprentice.
While influenced by the work of her father and other Western desert movement artists, Wentja developed her own unique style which graduated from family basic connecting concentric circles and dotted bands to mesmerising fields of tonal colours. Her paintings have a common theme, a large circle which represents an important rockhole where her family regularly comped. Surrounding the rockhole is a field of intricate dots representing the landscape.
Wentja sings about the rockhole while she works, and the songs and music are incorporated into her paintings. Wentja is an important artist whose work has featured in a number of local and international exhibitions and form a part of major collections, such as the National Aboriginal Art and Culture Institute in Adelaide, Artbank, Art Gallery of South Australia, Art Gallery of Western Australia, Queensland Art Gallery, Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory.
